SAMAYA GYA GYA GYA

This preliminary instruction of the Secret Heart Essence of the Three Roots has three parts; the external preliminary, the internal preliminary and the secret preliminary.

The external preliminary is of seven: showing the vessel of this instruction, the place [where this instruction should be shown and practiced], the time [of showing and practicing this instruction], companions [with whom this instruction should be practiced], materials [one should possess when showing and practicing this instruction], history and conferring empowerment.

First, showing the vessel; is [that the vessel should be] an individual with complete faculties, great intelligence, firm diligence, clean samayas, diligent in [virtuous] practices, generous, devoid of attachment, good revulsion, patient in troubles, faith in the unsurpassable Dharma and able to keep its secrets, stable in the mountain of faith, and with an overflowing ocean of respect and devotion. To those who are opposite of these [qualities] keep secret even the teaching on breathing [meditation].

The place: is amidst snow, solitary places, mountaintops and cemeteries. Show and put into practice this instruction at these places of clean solitude, free from deterioration.

External time is the time of neither summer nor autumn, and the last winter month or the spring month when peach flowers blossom. Internal time is the time of the two rays. Secret time is the day of good star and planetary signs, and devoid of ill planetary movements.
